Smart Start Residential  (Sunday the 15th - Tuesday the 17th of September 2019)

The Smart Start Residential is a three day pre-entry transition programme for students on the autism spectrum run by the University Transitions Team.  The programme is free to attend and it is designed to help new students to make the transition to living and studying independently at Lancaster University.

On the Smart Start Residential Programme, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Make friends in their peer group
  • Become familiar with the campus environment
  • Experience living in student accommodation
  • Learn about relevant support services
  • Gain confidence in a range of essential life skills in order to keep safe and comfortable
  • Meet key staff within departments (where possible) and find out what to expect from lectures and seminars

If you will not be living on campus and wish to apply there is an option to attend on a non-residential basis, please enquire for more information.

Watch our video to hear what our students have to say about our Smart Start Residential:

Feedback from students who attended Smart Start previously includes:

“The campus tour and trip to Lancaster were useful in letting me orientate myself and staying overnight helped reassure me about staying away from home.”

“I feel very ready! I’m really excited and less nervous now.”

Places are limited on the Smart Start Residential. There is an application process and you will be invited to apply by the Transitions Team in June 2019. You will need to be registered with the Disability Service to receive an invite.

Places will be allocated based on the information provided on application.  This includes a copy of medical evidence confirming an Autism diagnosis.  Our aim is to enable applicants to get the most out of the programme, so we will consider both the needs of the individual and the content of the programme when considering applications.

Please note that places will not be allocated until after A-level results are released.
